Townend is a striking Lakeland slate farmhouse, set on the side of a hill, and was once home to the Browne family.
A 17th century home, it’s now a National Trust property filled with tools, exhibits and furnishings that give an insight into how the Brownes would have lived. This is a family-friendly attraction, complete with plenty for children to enjoy, and staff will regularly light the fire in the original house kitchen. After you’ve viewed the house, you might also want to take a walk around the farm gardens or buy a plant or second-hand book
