You can stay on dry land, or head out to sea enjoying a boat trip to nearby Steep Holm, a privately-owned island with an abundance of wildlife and panoramic views.

The seafront is lined with iconic buildings, such as the Grand Atlantic Hotel, and further inland you’ll find attractions including the Playhouse Theatre which is particularly popular for its high-quality pantomimes throughout the festive season.

Weston-super-Mare itself offers plenty to enjoy in any weather, with an unforgettable November carnival taking place annually, featuring over 140 brightly lit floats, music and a procession that lasts for up to two hours. The town has an abundance of shops, ranging from quirky novelty beach shops to shopping centres full of chain retail outlets, and in the summer thousands of people flock to the sandy beaches to build sandcastles, wade in the water and eat ice creams on the shore.

The beach hosts events including motorbike festivals and music festivals, many of which are free events that you won’t find anywhere else.

The Seaquarium is an animal attraction that stands over the beach and houses a wide variety of marine life, and the beaches themselves stretch for miles. Weston-super-Mare’s historic pier offers high-tech rides and attractions, places to drink and dine and traditional fairground favourites for all ages.

Few places are so suited to families with children, and to couples looking for that traditional British seaside holiday atmosphere. Meanwhile, just a little further afield you’ll find some of England’s best show caves and cities like Bristol and Bath with their own modern and historic attractions to offer.
