Hadrian’s Wall covers a vast distance of 150 miles, running from Arbeia in South Shields to Ravenglass in Cumbria.
Originally a Roman defensive wall, it’s now mostly in ruins. At some points, you’ll see little more than a few remaining stones and rocks, whilst elsewhere towers remain. Once, more than 30 forts could be found near the wall, with 16 being on the wall’s line. As you make your way along Hadrian’s Wall, you’ll see dozens of monuments and museums giving a deeper insight into the role this exceptional monument played in the defence of ancient Britannia.
