Visit Perthshire

There's Plenty to See and Do

Reaching down to just beyond Kinross, and up to the Grampian Mountains, the Scottish county of Perthshire is the kind of place that deserves to be captured on camera. Deep blue lakes, snow-capped mountains and lush green fields make the perfect setting for a holiday or short break in Scotland. Walkers will find that there’s plenty to see and do, whilst honeymooners can enjoy peaceful boat trips, picnics and gentle sunset strolls.

Perthshire is home to some very interesting and typically Scottish towns, like Pitlochry and Auchterarder, as well as the city of Perth which is built along the banks of the River Tay. The word ‘Perth’ means ‘wood’, and the Perthshire landscape is filled with wooded areas and patches of forest. In fact, the region is often affectionately known as Big Tree Country.

Of course, no visit to any part of Scotland would be complete without a game of golf. Perthshire has some challenging golf courses, and some that are great for beginners. If you prefer to hike, then why not pay a visit to Blairgowrie and begin the 64-mile circular Cateran Trail? Marvel at the 16th century Elcho Castle, or go to the Pitlochry Festival Theatre for an evening of entertainment.

You can go fishing in Perthshire’s lakes and rivers, or try other outdoor activities including rock climbing and horse riding. On Perthshire’s border with Aberdeenshire, you’ll also find the towering Glenshee with four mountains, three valleys, 38 ski runs and all you need for snow sports whether you’re a beginner or an expert.

History enthusiasts can visit landmarks including the ivy-clad Scone Palace, which acts as a museum, an art gallery, a family-friendly attraction and a venue for a whole host of events including concerts, antiques fairs, weddings and conferences. A visit to the Scottish Liqueur Centre is a particularly interesting experience, and the county is home to some of Scotland’s best whisky distilleries.

In Perthshire, you’ll be able to appreciate the great outdoors like never before. Tie your walking boots, and prepare to explore some of Scotland’s best-loved beauty spots.
