If ever a Hotel in Wales had a picture perfect location it is the Imperial Hotel Tenby. Not only is it perched high on a cliff top overlooking Tenby’s beautiful west beach with easy access to the harbour and town centre, but it is also located at the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Tenby is an extremely pretty walled seaside town, with multicoloured seafront houses, gorgeous sandy beaches and the UK’s first slipway assisted RNLI lifeboat station. The town’s fortunes have been sporadic over the centuries but it was redefined and revitalised during the 19th century, a move that turned it into a fashionable Victorian resort. It was at this time that The Grade II listed Imperial Hotel, our Hotel in Wales, was built into the mediaeval walls of the old town. The views from sea facing rooms are very special. But then again, Pembrokeshire itself is very special too...
The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is all about superlatives. The UK’s ‘most beautiful beach’, Barafundle Bay, is here along with, the UK’s smallest city, St David’s and the UK’s most beautiful coastal scenery. It is also the place where you’ll find internationally important wildlife. On Skomer Island you’ll find the world’s largest colony of Manx Shearwaters as well as Puffins, Shags, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Guillemots and Razorbills, whilst a jaunt up to Europe’s most important site for Bottlenose Dolphins in Cardigan Bay could reward you with a sighting or two of our favourite pelagic friends on a boat trip to Cardigan Island. You might also see seals and Harbour Porpoises too. On a Ramsey Island rib adventure you can ride tidal rapids and enter giant sea caves as well as spot more of Pembrokeshire’s brilliant wildlife.
On land there are plenty of gardens to keep the horticulturalists happy. At Picton Castle and Woodland Gardens you’ll encounter some of West Wales’ largest and oldest trees, whilst at The National Botanical Gardens of Wales you’ll encounter some stunning plants from around the world in the largest single span glasshouse in the World. Another first for Pembrokeshire!
If you like walking then our Hotel in Wales will make a perfect base as you can begin right outside the door on The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, one of the UK’s national trails. It is 186 miles long, passes 58 beaches and 14 harbours and has a wide variety of landscapes. If that sounds a bit tiring, don’t worry, as the Pembrokeshire walkers’ bus service runs the entire length. Just stroll a bit then get the bus back!
You don’t have to tackle the whole route if you don’t want to as there are plenty of shorter circular walks too. The Lily Ponds at Bosherston, for example will enthral you with its clear waters and easy to spot wildlife. The ponds occupy three flooded limestone valleys that eventually lead you – just when you think it couldn’t get any better - to the fabulous stretch of sand that is Broad Haven Beach. Just like the rest of Pembrokeshire this easy stroll has surprises and delights wherever you turn.
