For a true taste of life in the glens, our Hotels in northern Scotland will put you right there, at the heart of Highlands. With a hotel at Pitlochry in the Perthshire Highlands you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy walking, whisky, wildlife and everything in between. You’ll see magnificent castles, royal estates, enchanting gardens and of course, a chance to play some very picturesque golf courses.
The hotel in northern Scotland is at Pitlochry, in the Perthshire Highlands. The Pitlochry Hydro Hotel was named after the health giving waters that are found in the area.
Pitlochry also enjoys royal connections and its success as a tourist centre may well be down to a visit from Queen Victoria in 1842. It’s a great spot to make the most of the highland scenery, with walks of all lengths and degrees of difficulty nearby. Mountains in the area include Ben Vrackie and Schiehallion. Also close by is Edradour, Scotland’s smallest and most picturesque distillery. It’s a very popular stop off for visitors to the area. For health reasons only, of course. At the other end of the scale, the widest conifer in the UK stands tall at over 35 metres at Cluny House gardens not far from Pitlochry.
You might not fancy tossing the caber but there are plenty of other traditional Scottish pursuits to enjoy whilst in the Highlands. Fly fishing and field sports are still as popular as ever, with plenty of nearby lochs and rivers to keep the most aren’t countryman on his toes. Head to Arbroath and pick up a traditionally-made, fresh-from-the-barrel smokie. It’ll taste like no other fish you’ve ever tasted.
Today, there are ever more ways to spend your time in Scotland. Horse riding will show you the lay of the land whilst in winter, skiing and snowboarding are the way to travel. Golf remains a staple of any visit to Scotland and there are golf courses dotted all over the Highlands. The UK’s highest 18 hole course, at 1200 feet above sea level, is at Braemar. You could even cast your eye over the dark and brooding waters of Loch Ness for a sign from Nessie on a day trip to the very beautiful Great Glen. You might not see the monster himself but you will see some very beautiful and unique scenery along the way.
