A warm welcome to The Portpatrick Hotel...

Our location set above the quaint and beautiful little fishing village of Portpatrick in a peaceful and unspoilt corner of Southern Scotland is very special. No one who visits us says anything other than “ Pictures can’t do justice to this view” – it’s just beautiful. The village itself is small, friendly and lovely for an early evening stroll – just a great way to relax.

We are blessed with having some beautiful gardens around the hotel with Logan Botanic Gardens and Culzean Castle being the best known but there are lots more. The Mull of Galloway is another great spot, with views across to England, Ireland and the Isle of Man all from one location.

The area is a haven for lovers of sports and the outdoors. You’ll also find a variety of wonderful opportunities for bird watching and fishing.

Local Insight

With our location it was never a hard decision to take the job as General Manager here at Portpatrick 12 years ago. All those years on, the place is still as magical and the views just as unspoilt. The majority of our guests come to stay with us simply to relax and we hope, with our long serving staff offering the very best of Scottish hospitality and our location, you will add to our list of regulars.

Sporty guests are pleased with our choice of golf courses. My personal favourite is the Portpatrick and for the more challenging Turnberry, home to the 2009 Open, is just an hour away.
Phil, General Manager

  • Glenwhan Garden
This is certainly a garden for all seasons with an incredible diversity of plants. It has taken 20 years of hard work by Tessa and Bill to produce this garden of outstanding character and it is a joy to visit. Perhaps the statue of the Florentine Medici Boar - a symbol of fertility - in the centre of the garden has helped.

  • Castle Kennedy
The gardens are extensively landscaped with terraces, mounds and avenues, all of which were created by men and horses, and extend to more than 30 hectares.

  • Logan Botanic Gardens
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh was established in 1670 and during the twentieth century acquired three Regional Gardens - the mountainous Benmore in Argyll. Dawyck in the wooded hills of the Scottish Borders and Logan on the Gulf Stream-warmed southern peninsula of Dumfries & Galloway.

  • Broughton House
Behind the fine 18th century town house with its pink lime washed exterior lies a treasure trove of collections together with a magically secret garden. A little known treasure of a fine town house and garden nestling on the banks of the River Dee in Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway. Broughton House was the home of artist E A Hornel. Behind the pink lime washed walls a delightfully uplifting collection of art, ceramics, furniture and literature together with a magically secret garden lie hidden. This fine 18th century town house, bought by Hornel in 1901 became his home and studio. A recent recipient of the 2006 RICS conservation award following a two-year conservation project – today, you too, may find the inspiration that makes Broughton House and indeed Kirkcudbright the artists town we know today.

Well Presented Hotel

A very well presented hotel in a fine headland position overlooking the attractive port. Our room was excellent and the staff were pleasant and helpful. There was a reasonable choice of menu at dinner and breakfast and the food was good. Highly recommended.

The Portpatrick Hotel - Fantastic!

The staff were very friendly and could not have been more helpful, going that extra mile to make our stay a pleasant one. The food was first class and we received the quickest service of our lives. The hotel was clean, warm and welcoming and the sea view from our room was ideal. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable and was cleaned quickly to a high standard. We will definitely be going back. My ten year old son loved it too.

Ruby Wedding

My husband and I booked into The Portpatrick Hotel to celebrate our Ruby Wedding. Good choice, as our long week end was wonderful, our room was lovely, really clean. Every one of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I suffer from Coeliac Disease and was delighted to find that all staff were very knowledgeable about it which made me feel I could completely relax knowing I would not become ill. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone, thanks to all who made our break special.

Excellent short break

Stayed at the hotel with friends for a short break as we were celebrating birthdays. Having stayed at the George in Hexham earlier in the year we were delighted that standards were the same and we received the same excellent welcome and service at the Portpatrick. Had standard room with sea view, clean and comfy, the staff were great as was the food, well presented and delicious, even the weather was kind, I am sure that we will return in the future for another visit. Good value for money.
