Chesters Walled Garden
This 2 acre 18th Century walled garden lies next to Chesters Roman Fort and Hadrian's Wall. The gardens feature one of the largest collections of herbs in England and include a Roman herb garden. There are hundred-year-old espalier apple trees, a delightful knot garden, ornamental ponds, old fashioned roses and flower filled borders. Organically run, it is a paradise for gardeners, bird watchers and artists. This attraction is located less than one mile from the George Hotel in Chollerford, and six miles north of Hexham.
Chollerford Bridge
This old stone bridge replaces the original medieval structure which was damaged in a flood back in 1771. Constructed eight years after the Jacobite rebellion of 1745, the bridge was built to allow troops to cross the river when travelling between Newcastle and Carlisle. The George Hotel is situated on the west side of the bridge.
