Unfortunately Coast and Country Hotels didn’t win the Best Leisure Hotel Chain award. It went to Premier Inn, well done to them.

Let’s hope 2012 will bring us more luck and maybe win a BTA award.

Loyal customers rewarded with free break and mention on BBC Radio 2

Posted On: May 10th, 2011

The most loyal customers in the world?

Graham Lomas and his wife Wendy from Northwich have just returned from their fiftieth stay at Pitlochry Hydro Hotel in Pitlochry, Perth. Having now travelled some 33,000 miles, which is the equivalent of almost one and a half times around the world, this shows what length customers will go to stay in their favourite hotel!

The tradition began more than a decade ago when the Lomas’ fell in love with this property having previously stayed at more than thirty hotels owned by parent company Shearings Hotels in the South of England.

The couple were so struck by the Scottish scenery and the comfort of the Pitlochry Hydro Hotel that they have visited forty-nine times since! They come at least four times a year and stay in the same room every time, sometimes bringing along a group of friends and their daughter.

Mr Lomas said: “We started coming to Pitlochry for a change but we loved it so much that we keep coming back. It’s a beautiful town in the heart of Scotland. The locals are really friendly and the scenery is spectacular.

“We always look for a hotel that provides a home away from home and the team at the Pitlochry Hydro are always welcoming and can’t do enough to help us. It’s now become like a second home for us,” continued Graham.

Chris Stanton, manager of the Pitlochry Hydro Hotel, said: “It’s great to see familiar faces among our guests. I’ve worked here for the past eleven years so the Lomas’ are part of my history at the hotel. They feel a bit like an extended family.

“We try to go the extra mile to make things special for them. The staff bought Mrs Lomas a present for her 70th birthday last year and we always make sure that their favourite room is free for their stay.”

On Monday 9th May the story reached Chris Evans BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show. Listen to the clip below.

Now 16 Hotels with The Ship and Castle Hotel, St Mawes

Posted On: January 4th, 2011

Set beside the harbour in an enviable position, The Ship and Castle Hotel is full of charming atmosphere of nautical St Mawes, with its winding streets and ancient Tudor castle. This welcoming hotel offers a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and beautiful views. A short ferry trip is a lovely way to reach Falmouth where there is much to see and do.

You will find The Ship and Castle Hotel right on the quay side in St Mawes. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen’s cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 55 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location.

St Mawes was originally a fishing village and whilst there are still a few remaining working boats and opportunities to take fishing trips, the water now predominantly hosts sailing vessels of all types from small dinghy’s to world class racers, and being adjacent to Falmouth, one of the world's deepest natural harbours you are sure to see a myriad of nautical transport.

New Star: The Invercauld Arms Hotel, Breamar, Scotland

Posted On: January 4th, 2011

The stately Invercauld Arms Hotel is an important landmark on the edge of the delightful Highland village of Braemar. Like many Coast and Country Hotels, it boasts a long and fascinating history. Today the hotel stands on one of the largest country estates in Scotland, surrounded by breathtaking Grampian scenery.

The impressive baronial style of the Invercauld Arms is set again the stunning backdrop of the Grampian Mountains. The first Saturday of every September is the world famous Breamar Royal Highland Gathering, held at the Duke of Fife Memorial Park at the other end of the village and attended annually by the Queen and several members of the Royal family. The park is open all year round for viewing. Balmoral Castle is nine miles east, where the Queen is in residence every August. The village of Braemar has two castles, Braemar Castle built by the Earl of Mar in 1628 and Kindrochit Castle, built by King Malcolm III. Braemar Castle looks like a fairytale castle and has a star-shaped defence wall. It is currently open during the summer months and has been restored by the local community council. Kindrochit Castle was once named Ceann-drochit and is actually the ruins of ancient fortifications built between 1057 and 1093.

The Invercauld Arms is ideal for those looking to partake in outdoor activities, explore the Highlands or just relax and enjoy the unrivalled world famous Scottish hospitality.
