Local Insight

I have always been a Weston person and think I always will be! With the sea and beach so close and beautiful countryside just a few miles inland, Weston is a great combination. I love summer, people watching on the sea front and the buzz of the town. Winter is great for windy walks down the beach and on wet days there is excellent shopping at nearby Cribbs Causeway or the very new Cabot Circus.

Cheddar Gorge and the caves at Wells are popular for a trip out, as is the huge Cadbury garden centre down the road, complete with its great lunchtime restaurant.

  • Clevedon Court
Set in a beautifully landscaped terraced garden, the house was built by Sir John de Clevedon in c.1320, incorporating parts of a massive 13th-century tower and great hall. Much of the original building is still evident, although the Elizabethans made many alterations and additions. Home to the Elton family since 1709, visitors will see striking examples of Eltonware pottery and a fascinating collection of Nailsea glass.

  • Tyntesfield
Tyntesfield, a glorious Victorian extravaganza, is a magical place, bristling with towers and turrets, created by four generations of the Gibbs family. Saved for the nation in 2002, with a dramatic fundraising campaign, Tyntesfield provides a unique opportunity to experience the work needed to conserve and restore a country estate. After six years of fundraising and planning while opening to 350,000 visitors, the essential work to re-roof, re-wire and re-plumb the house and chapel is now starting. During this conservation in action project, visitors will be treated to a fascinating insight into the technology of Tyntesfield and discover, with our Room Interpreters, how each generation of the Gibbs family influenced its architecture and collections. To find out more about the conservation project, visit the interactive exhibition in the beautiful stables. Make sure you take the opportunity to relax in the formal terraced gardens, then stroll through rolling parkland to the wonderful walled kitchen garden, where produce is available to visitors. Be amazed at the arboretum and track down the eight champion trees, before enjoying one of the new estate walks with stunning views of the Land Yeo valley.

  • Jasmine Cottage
Jasmine Cottage is a privately owned garden. The owners maintain the garden themselves, and make many changes to the garden every year; lately they have altered and laid out a three acre oblong plot into several 'rooms' with tall evergreen hedges many years ago from part of a larger garden. The garden is near the Bristol Channel and enjoys a fairly mild climate, although sometimes it is very windy. The soil is a free draining loam with a neutral pH. Which means a wide variety of plants can grow.

More than simply an historic house and garden, this splendid medieval palace has been the home of the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years. There are 14 acres of gardens including the springs from which the city takes its name. Visitors can also see the Bishop's private chapel, ruined great hall and the gatehouse with portcullis and drawbridge beside which the famous mute swans ring a bell for food.

Just had a very nice 5 day holiday with Shearings at this hotel. Food was excellent, the bedroom was very comfortable, and the staff couldn't do enough for my young grandson who had a grand time being pampered. My thanks to the staff for making it such an enjoyable holiday.

Long Weekend

Overall we had a very nice stay. The food was excellent and the service very good. The main areas have been recently refurbished and were very comfortable. My room however, was very creaky. Every single floorboard creaked with just the slightest movement and the bed creaked just by breathing in bed! That aside, the room was nicely furnished and clean. The bathroom was, while comfortable, very tired and in need of a serious overhaul.

Faultless

This was our first visit to a Coast and Country Hotel and were prepared to just make the most of a cheap break. What a surprise we had, we could not fault a single thing. The food was fantastic both in quality and choice. The room was large, clean and had a very comfortable bed. No worries about parking due to a large free car park and when you step out of the hotel door you are on the sea front. This holiday would have been fantastic value at twice the price.

Worth a visit

A super 3day break, booked via shearing’s coast and country hotels. We had a standard room which was very nice, would have loved an upgraded room but were all taken. The choice of meals were very good and we had a lovely waiter called john .all staff were very good, are room was on the third floor with a sea view really lovely, the hotel was just prefect and we will be booking up again to stay there, the only thing I would say is it could do with entertainment .we would like to thank all staff.

Another Fine Weekend

Once again visited the Grand Atlantic for another weekend cabaret break and was NOT disappointed. The staff continue to be courteous and helpful at all times, from reception to the housekeeper. Accommodation is being continuously upgraded and is comfortable. Catering facilities are of an excellent standard, with staff that are keen to assist. The standard of entertainment is extremely good, and in particular the Saturday Cabaret. Have plans to visit again next year.

An Autumn Break

We thoroughly enjoyed our Weekend at Bay Eden Arms, It’s a perfect location, to get to Beamish Village, Durham, and the shops in Darlington. The hotel staff were first class in the service they provided, nothing seemed to be a bother , and we also had entertainment for the three nights. Which you sometimes don’t get in other hotels. A definite recommendation to other patrons.

Lovely Weekend Away

A badly needed short break not too far away was well catered for at our recent stay in The Atlantic. It was worth upgrading our room to a sea view which was clean and comfortable. The wardrobe in a dark corner could have done with a better light and our toiletries got quite warm placed on shelves in the bathroom. The food was good with plenty of choice with helpful staff catering to our needs. Weston's much improved front and attractions with a lovely place to stay makes a return certain.

Value For Money

This is our second visit to The Grand Atlantic and the ninth to Coast and Country Hotel. Staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly, the views are great - altogether a very good value-for-money deal. And a further advantage - it has an excellent car-park. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Self Drive Weekend Treat

We were very pleasantly surprised with this Hotel - its external appearance was tidy and clean and the interior was comfortable n cosy. Opening the doors to our rooms on the 4th floor was a pleasing experience too - contemporary decorated and furnished rooms - both single and twin rooms which made our stay all the more enjoyable. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent... The only fly in the ointment was that my parents couldn’t get the over bath shower to work properly....

Our weekend in Weston

We have just returned from a weekend in Weston, the Grand Atlantic Hotel is situated in a great central location, we were lucky enough to have a room with a sea view, the view was stunning. Plenty of parking at the hotel. The staff were lovely and very helpful, the breakfast food was nice, but small portions of cooked food. Considering we paid £100 per night for our B&B room it was tiny, with one small window, the temperature was very warm outside, and the hotel provided us with one very small fan.

The Grand Atlantic Hotel Review

This hotel has been a favourite of my family over the last 12 years. Its position is ideal for both beach and town centre, and has a large car park. Having undergone refurbishment over the last 2 years, it now boasts 3 levels of accommodation, and two tariffs, Bed and Breakfast or half board. Restaurant facilities are excellent, as is the accommodation. The staff are attentive, courteous and eager to please at all levels. Further visits are planned.
