Windermere is recognised as the iconic centre of The Lake District and acts as the perfect base from which to discover the area’s treasures.
The hotel is set high above the town of Windermere from where you gain beautiful views over the water. Originally called The Riggs Windermere, the hotel opened at the same time as the railway line from Oxenholme and stands as an impressive reminder of that era. Inside, guests will enjoy the bar and restaurant with their warm, modern look, but the hotel still retains a lovely period feel, true to its railway heritage.
It’s an easy stroll into town and for the more energetic the Lake is just a 20 minute walk. For a real treat or that special occasion we have a number of Premier Rooms which both overlook the Lake.

Windermere is the largest lake in England - 10.5 miles long and 200 ft deep in places. The lake is classified as a public highway and in centuries past supported commercial traffic associated with slate and copper mining, timber, wool and fishing. The lake is England's largest lake, in the heart of the Lake District.
I have never known a place where views change so much during the day sunshine and rain highlight the landscape so beautifully. Just a simple drive in the Lakes is a lovely experience and the same road in the other direction gives a totally different perspective and view – never a dull day out in the Lakes! Very often my days off are spent relaxing with a great walk.
My local’s “hot tip” would be walking to Miller Ground. It is a lovely walk that ends at the lake itself with beautiful views over to the hills on the other side. It’s also an easy walk to the pubs and restaurants.

Just returned from great weekend stay with friends. I do think that some people just moan for moaning sake after reading some of the reviews. We found the hotel and bedrooms to be well heated all though it was very cold outside. Food was very good and well presented (a mention at this time about Ramon our waiter great guy and nothing was too much trouble). As I said the weekend was so good we have booked another weekend, thanks to all your staff Giles see you in March.

We have just had a 5 day winter break staying in the Windermere Hotel, and would like to thank all concerned for a very pleasant holiday. All staff were friendly and efficient, and we were delighted to find our room was on the first floor at the front of the hotel, with far reaching views overlooking the town of Windermere. As last week was exceptionally cold we had been concerned that our room and public rooms would be chilly, but this was not the case. An enjoyable short break, thanks to all!

Was our first time at this hotel, we were greeted by a young man called James on reception, who was polite smiley and very helpful, all throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble for me, but I wish we could say that for the rest of the staff who all seemed to have the whole world on their shoulders! If you gave them eye contact or dare I say a smile there response was to look another way, our first nights meal was very poor! Thankfully it got better Saturdays was excellent. Thanks to all.

I've never written a review before but having just returned from a 3 night break at this hotel I felt compelled to. We treat ourselves to a lot of weekends away and judge hotels by the comfort of the bed, the shower and the food, and all three definitely excelled here! The upgrade to a superior room gave us a lovely view and the obvious redecoration throughout made it all very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and we look forward to visiting you again sometime soon.

We have enjoyed our second break and again, had a wonderful weekend thanks to the friendliness and helpfulness of your excellent staff. Our upgraded room – very comfortable- - would, I’m sure have provided a lovely view of the lake if only visibility had been better. We hope to return later in the year when, hopefully, the weather will be a little kinder.
