Stratford-upon-Avon is famed as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. But there’s lots more to discover here too: the beautiful Bancroft Gardens, the charming Charlecote Park – it’s all here. Our hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon is perfectly placed to help you make the very best of your stay.
Whether you’re a literary fan or otherwise, it’s difficult to come away from Stratford-upon-Avon without knowing at least a little bit more about William Shakespeare. The legacy of the world’s greatest ever poet and playwright is everywhere. And it’s highly infectious. A great place to start is the house where Shakespeare was born and grew up. Then there’s Hall’s Croft (home to William’s daughter), Mary Arden's Farm (the childhood home of Shakespeare's mother) and the world famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre. But however deep you delve into Shakespeare’s history, there are plenty of other things to see and do in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Rain or shine, a visit to Charlecote Park is an excellent way to while away an afternoon. The National Trust owned grounds are home to a magnificent Tudor house that is fascinating to explore. If you love botanical beauty then you’ll love the landscaped deer park and gardens, where fallow deer roam freely beside the banks of the River Avon. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? A formal parterre, a colourful herbaceous planting and a glorious woodland walk await.
After all that walking, what better way to refresh and reenergise tired feet than with a visit to Peditank Rufa Bar? Their natural spa service claims to be the cleanest exfoliating spa experience possible for hands and feet. Soft, soft, soft? You bet! After that, how about a trip to Holy Trinity Church? It’s said to be one of the most visited parish churches in England and is where Shakespeare was baptized and then buried 52 years later.
Another lovely way to spend your time in Stratford is people watching in Bancroft Gardens, a communal park on the banks of the River Avon in front of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Or for something more exhilarating, set your coordinates for Avon Air Centre and head sky high with a flight over the heart of Britain. Then again, if you prefer life at sea level, how about a romantic gondola ride along the River Avon? Okay, it’s not quite Venice. But it’s the next best thing!
