Set in a beautiful river front location, five miles from the market town of Hexham. The George Hotel at Chollerford is a historic building dating back to the 1700’s, renowned for its fine food and warm hospitality.
It is great to have such a history behind the hotel and we work hard to keep the tradition going. We have also invested in the hotel by upgrading a number of facilities including the leisure club, with its swimming pool and gym. The front entrance and reception have been improved and the lounge bar now has traditional furniture and a baby grand piano. The restaurant has been redecorated to complement the views across the river. Situated west of Newcastle, we are an ideal spot for walkers, history buffs and gardeners.
The hotel is a perfect retreat in a location that we consider to be one of the most relaxing in Northumbria.

A lot of our guests come to walk Hadrian's Wall and Hexham, a small beautiful market town, it's well worth exploring. Game fishing is extremely popular on this stretch of river, with permits available at the hotel and Northumberland National Park, which is situated just five miles to the west.
Our location is just stunning and everyday when I arrive the river next to us is different. It changes not just with the seasons but every day – sitting in our gardens and taking in the view is a pleasure in itself but we have even more to offer.
A lot of our guests come to walk Hadrian’s Wall and Hexham, a small, historic, and beautiful market town, its well worth exploring - it is also home to Britain’s first prison! Chester’s roman fort is also very interesting. Game fishing is extremely popular on this stretch of the river, with permits available at the hotel, and Northumberland National Park is situated just five miles to the west.

The hotel is set next to a beautiful river which is surrounded by the gorgeous country side. As we made our first steps into the hotel, we were welcomed by the kind lady behind reception and given the keys to our new accommodation. The room was large and equipped with all the necessary items. The bathroom was pleasingly big and had a great shower and bath. As a 14 year old boy, I am a strong user of Wi-Fi which I could connect to from my bedroom. The hotel is great and I had a very pleasant stay.

We've never been to Northumberland before and the welcome we got at The George make the long journey more than worth it. The staff were charming, our room was attractive and comfy with a stunning view over the river and countryside. Just the job for a pair of tired Londoners! Excellent menu and wine list too.

Just returned from our 3 day break at the George hotel. It's a lovely hotel with the most beautiful surroundings, looking out of the dining room on to the river while being waited on by the nothings to much trouble staff and enjoying the lovely food. Rooms are replenished every day with beverages. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and gym great. This was our third time at the George hotel. ROLL ON NEXT OCTOBER!

Were visiting to celebrate wedding anniversaries, first stay in the North East, we were not disappointed! Everything was first class, lovely rooms, superb food, public areas were excellent, it couldn’t have been better if it had been a five star hotel. The staff were attentive friendly and helpful, we were a little apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews, but believe me, these two retired couples will be back asap, can't wait to try your other hotels. Thank you all
