Local Insight

I have lived in Harrogate for years and would never move away. We have all the facilities of a large modern town with shops and entertainment, combined with characteristic architecture and grand boulevards, but we are just minutes from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales – a perfect combination. Betty’s Tea Rooms is one of the really popular choices in Harrogate, ideal for a gorgeous cream tea but not good on the waistline – I’d recommend it!

  • Royal Pump Museum
Housed in Harrogate's premiere Spa building and site of Europe's strongest Sulphur Well, The Royal Pump Room Museum tells the story of Harrogate as a Spa. Displays show why visitors from all over the World visited the 'Queen of the Inland Spas' - the social side of 'spawning' such as the history of Harrogate's Stray, shops and Hotels and of course the old spa treatments. You can still see the sulphur wells, and no visit to the museum is complete without a taste of the water!
  • Betty's Tea Rooms
When Betty’s opened its doors for the first time in 1919 it was just as our founder, Frederick Belmont, had visualised – customers were greeted by a tempting array of delicious Yorkshire and Continental confections in the shop, and an elegant Café Tea Room served teas and meals in the traditional English style. It was an immediate success.  Nearly ninety years later and we welcome more than one million customers a year to Betty’s. We’re still a family business and continue to stay true to Frederick’s founding principles.

Harrogate International Centre runs many events including, Music concerts, Live Entertains, shows and many more.

  • Spa Baths
Although Turkish Baths were common in Victorian times, only seven remain which date back to the 19th century. None of them is as historically complete and in full working order as Harrogate's Turkish Baths. Their importance lies in their decoration, elaboration and rarity. The Baths’ Moorish design with great Islamic arches and screens, walls of vibrant glazed brickwork, the arabesque painted ceilings and terrazzo floors (laid by the very best Italian experts) all add to its historic fantasy qualities.
  • Harewood House
Harewood sits at the heart of Yorkshire, easily accessible by road, rail and air. The House, one of the treasure houses of England, was built in the mid-18th century and has magnificent interiors by Robert Adam, furniture by Thomas Chippendale and paintings by JMW Turner, Reynolds, Titian and El Greco, among others. An Italianate Terrace, designed by Sir Charles Barry, stretches along the South Front of the House and provides stunning views of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's landscape and lake. The collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain is as fine as any in the land, and the setting is Yorkshire’s most beautiful landscape.

The St George Hotel Review

A very pleasant few days despite the weather, the hotel was warm and comfortable and whilst our room is in need of redecoration it was very well cleaned. The dining room was such a surprise, certainly the best atmosphere and food we have ever had at a Shearings Hotel. The staff were extremely well organised, friendly and efficient. The food was good but a shame to charge such a surcharge for cheese instead of a sweet, also fruit other than grapefruit would have been nice at breakfast

The St George Hotel

I must go again! Went for the first time on 17 May having been to many Coast & Country Hotels, Bay & Shearings and although in need of redecoration (which has been started) the food was the best I have every had at any of these hotels. Well done to the Chef and Management.

Relaxing Night

Having booked this hotel only hours before arriving check in was not a problem. My room was a single but was bigger than I thought it would be. The evening meal was to die for. I also used the leisure area which I cannot fault. Will be going again on a girly weekend.

Our stay at the St George Hotel

My friend and I have just stayed 2 nights there and cannot fault the Hotel and staff. The rooms were clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly and efficient. They have a problem with noise until the early hours but what people have to realise is that they cannot do anything about it themselves. The Council of Harrogate are the ones that issue the drinking licences and if people want to assist the Hotel to remedy the problem they should do what I am going to do and write to the council.

Lovely Hotel and Friendly Staff

This is the second time we have been to the St George and compared to last year there has been a fantastic overhaul. Rooms redecorated, Dining Room is stunning as is the food. The staff are amongst the friendliest I have met especially Dave the Head Bar Manager. Although this was on business I am rebooking for my husband’s birthday in March for 2 nights. Great Hotel

We were attending my Nephews families’ day at the Army Foundation College. Dad and I booked 2 single rooms for 2 nights. Our rooms were cosy, warm, clean, well decorated and very comfy. The hotel is welcoming, the staff were friendly. The breakfast was everything we could want and need for a good start to our day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting the above. This was everything we needed at a great price. We will be back in December for my Nephews passing out. Thank you.

Weekend Break

Hotel staff very pleasant, food ample and good quality, room was comfortable and good size. However, our room (122) was directly above the loud music speakers at the functions held on Friday and Saturday nights. Sleep was impossible before 1.00 am on both nights. I asked for a move on Saturday morning but, the hotel being full, was unable to do so. Whilst accepting that the hotel has to have these functions, some prior information at check-in would have been helpful.

After a very enjoyable visit to George hotel Hexham

The St George was a disappointment my reasons being firstly the car park was a joke how cars were not damaged was a miracle. The self serve breakfast was chaotic the menu said grilled kippers I did not see one the waiter said you must order them. Very different to The George at Hexham where there was ample parking and full waitress service at all meals plus I got my kippers no problem.

Very last minute break!

Decided to have a one night break at the last minute on Sunday morning 6th May. Rang through & spoke to Emma on reception who was very helpful and was able to book a room for us the same day. I had already subscribed by email to Shearings and the St George Hotel was within easy distance for us. Very impressed with all services. Good value for money and nice City Centre location. Room and all facilities including swimming pool were excellent. Food was 5 star. Would go back again tomorrow!
