Yorkshire is associated with many things but incredible seaside holiday might not be the first thing you think of. Perhaps it should be! The Victorian town of Scarborough is the oldest holiday resort in England. It has two beautiful golden beaches, which are ideal if you love the feeling of sand between your toes. Or simply watch the boats come and go in Scarborough’s pretty harbour while tucking in to a tasty portion of fish and chips. Delicious.
A visit to Yorkshire gives you plenty of opportunities to make memories. It’s just so diverse. One minute you could be enjoying spectacular coastal views from the cliff tops in Scarborough and the next you could be indulging in a little high style retail therapy in Harrogate. Then there’s the historic city of York to explore. York was founded by the Romans in 71AD and is endowed with a rich and vibrant history. People flock in their thousands to explore the historic buildings and ancient – largely pedestrianised – streets. Who can blame them? York Minster is the largest gothic cathedral in northern Europe and is well worth a visit. York Castle and Clifford’s Tower are great too. Or simply get a feel for the area by walking around the Roman city walls, the most complete in England.
Of course, you won’t need us to tell you that Yorkshire is a walker’s paradise. If you’re a fan of roaming the rural wilderness, it doesn’t get much better. Is there anywhere else in England so richly flushed with natural beauty? Yorkshire is home to the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors and The Peak District.
