A warm welcome to The Savoy Hotel...

The Savoy Hotel has been around a good while, from when it was built in 1912 replacing an old villa called Ebaston House. Over the years it has had an interesting history including a spell as an artillery records office in World War II.

Our location on the south beach is one of our big selling points, turn right out of the hotel and 20 metres away is the beautiful beach and sea beyond. 10 minutes gets you to our historic Bournemouth pier and for shoppers the town centre is just a 15 minute stroll.

We are proud of our gardens, pool and croquet lawn that stands between the hotel and the sea. It is great to have a quiet drink on our terrace taking in the scenery – hard to beat on a sunny day.

Local Insight

Cosmopolitan, beautiful, relaxed, and happy are just some of the words I have heard used to describe Bournemouth. When I arrived at the hotel 3 years ago, my friends started to visit me in droves!

Many come to enjoy the beautiful beaches we have down here – they have to be some of the best in the UK. The nightlife is so good and varied, with a wide choice of pubs, bars and restaurants within minutes walk of the hotel, you’ll be spoilt for choice. For trips out and about, the New Forest is very popular, our guests love the place.

  • Brownsea Island
Brownsea Island offers a varied and beautiful landscape for enjoying the wonders of nature; from the patchworks of woodland, heath and grassy fields in the peaceful and secluded interior, to the cliffs and beaches of the coastline, which offer breathtaking views across the harbour to the Purbeck Hills.

  • Corfe Castle
One of Britain's most majestic ruins and once a controlling gateway through the Purbeck Hills, the castle boasts breathtaking views and several waymarked walks. Steeped in history, an interactive exhibition uncovers many stories of treachery and treason. Defended during the Civil War by the prudent and virtuous Lady Bankes, the castle fell, due to betrayal from within, and was subsequently partially destroyed by the Parliamentarians. Many fine Norman and early English features remain.

  • Kingston Lacy
Home of the Bankes family for more than 300 years, this striking 17th-century house was radically altered in the 19th century by Sir Charles Barry. The house is noted for its lavish interiors, including William Bankes's dramatic Spanish Room, with its gilded leather walls. The family's collection of art is outstanding, with paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian and Brueghel as well as the largest private collection of Egyptian artefacts in the UK. This wonderfully eclectic experience continues outside. Take a stroll across the beautiful formal lawns towards the restored Japanese tea garden. There are several waymarked walks through the surrounding parkland, with its fine herd of North Devon cattle, and the 3,440-hectare (8,500-acre) estate – dominated by the botanically rich Iron Age hill fort of Badbury Rings, home to fourteen varieties of orchid.

  • White Mill
Rebuilt in 1776 on a site marked in the Domesday Book, this substantial corn mill was extensively repaired in 1994 and still retains its original elm and applewood machinery (now too fragile to be used). It is situated next to the River Stour.

  • Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens
Established in 1765 by the first Countess of Ilchester as a kitchen garden for her nearby castle. Developed since then into a magnificent 20 acre garden filled with rare and exotic plants from all over the world. Many of these plants were first introductions to this country, discovered by the plant hunting descendants of the Countess. Since the restoration after the great storm of 1990 many new exotic and unusual plants have been introduced. The garden is now a mixture of formal and informal, with charming walled garden walks and spectacular woodland valley views. World famous for its camellia groves and magnolias, noted for its rhododendron and hydrangea collections. In summer it is awash with subtropical colour.

Compton Acres invites you to escape to a different world. The new Compton Acres has more features than ever before. Compton Acres was built in 1929 and is a wonderful example of a historic garden in the UK. It is of late Victorian mixed style design with seven distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy, including the Italian Garden and the Japanese Garden.

  • Kingston Maurward Gardens
The parkland and pleasure gardens were originally laid out in the "Jardin Anglais" style popularised by 'Capability' Brown. Simplicity was the hallmark of the gardens, which consisted of rolling turf, carefully placed groups of trees, a lake and a lakeside temple. These and the lovely formal gardens have been carefully and sympathetically restored using 1930s photographs retaining the best features, but also introducing new ones. They now consist of a matrix of small gardens each with its own theme, tree trails, lakeside walks and a delightful walled garden.

Staff Great

Our stay in the Savoy was great. All I can say is how polite and helpful the staff were, just cannot fault them. Food was great, although disappointed with frozen fish (was really looking forward to lovely fish with batter on but I guess that’s just us northern folk) everything else was spot on and hit the mark every time. Came down to watch the footy we can thoroughly recommend the Savoy for a lovely stay. Also we used Shearings and our thanks go to them too. Excellent all round.

Brilliant!

My daughter and I have stayed at The Savoy a few times now, quite honestly we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bournemouth. Staff are excellent, polite and friendly. Entertainment is first class and is one of the reasons we chose this hotel initially and we haven't been disappointed. Superior rooms are great, spacious and very clean. The food is good but table d’hôte menu could do with a change. Has been the same every time we have visited. Can honestly recommend The Savoy.

Great Holiday

We have not stayed in a better hotel in our lives. From the moment we arrived your staff were soooo kind as we came rather too early. We spent a very happy week in garden room 10, a very clean and spacious, comfortable room with a lovely view. Your dining room is so special, and the food served very, very good. We had to take long walks every day on the promenade above the beach as we enjoyed it so much. Your staff are a credit to you and made us feel so welcome every day wherever we were. THANK YOU ALL.

Fabulous Long Weekend

Did a 3 night weekend break at the end of May and have already booked again for end of June. Stayed in a superior room with garden view - Fantastic! Lovely views of garden and the sea from our balcony. Restaurant was fabulous - good food +, lovely furnishings. Huge panoramic windows in hotel lounge and dining room looking out over gardens + sea.. Reasonably priced bar and cafe. Good entertainment. Faultless staff. Only downers - limited parking and pool area needs upgrading.

4 night stay

We found the room and bed clean and comfortable the staff were very good. The hotel was excellent and the breakfasts were good. But the evening dinners were poor and the vegetable not edible. The absents of a restaurant manager made it very difficult to complain.

Midweek Break

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at the Savoy Hotel Bournemouth. We found the staff to be one of the friendliest and efficient you could meet. The room, a Garden Room, was spacious, clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very well laid out and both the service and food were of a very high standard. Although we have been to Bournemouth many many times in the past it was the first time we have stayed at The Savoy, but we know we will be back again.

Honeymoon

Had a wonderful honeymoon at the Savoy. Food and staff were excellent. Very upset that we could not have a room with a garden view as all the rooms were taken. Hotel was very clean and the evening acts were the icing on the cake. Well done all of you! We will be coming back and upgrading our room. Garden needs a little TLC Carol McGraw.

Great

A great hotel transporting you back to a time when life went at a slower pace. Now being brought up to date. We have been coming here for over thirty years and it’s now the best it’s ever been. All the rooms are now being updated and are really nice. The lounge is comfortable and the bar prices are reasonable. Food ok entertainment cringe worthy but we still love it. Staff are really nice and friendly. By no means the best, yet still a really great hotel. We'll be back again in the few weeks.

Another Excellent Hotel

7 weeks after a stay at the lovely Coast and Country Windermere Hotel, off to try the Savoy Hotel. Worth the upgrade again, as we had a large room with garden and sea views. Excellent staff, service and food, and a prime location. Parking is a bit difficult but staff do manage to find a space. We may be remembered for pulling the whole curtain and rail down in our room Saturday evening, but it was fixed by the time dinner was over - what service! Another hotel to definitely recommend. Which hotel next I wonder?

One of the better Coast and Country Hotels

We have just returned from a very good 4 night break at this hotel. We paid extra for a "garden room" because the upgraded rooms are generally larger. However, it seems that all of the rooms here are of a good size. Our bathroom was a bit tired and the shower curtain wouldn't close but the room was very good. The entire hotel seems to have undergone a refurbishment and was superb. The food was top line and the staff were excellent. The entire experience was well worth the money.

Winter Break

We stayed from 31 January to 4 February 2011. We upgraded to a superior room which was well worth the extra and still very good value for money and the room was beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the staff very friendly and gave an excellent service in reception, bar and restaurant. The food was excellent and very nicely presented with plenty of choice. We would certainly stay there again and recommend the Hotel to anyone.

Great Cabaret Weekend

Four of us have just returned from an excellent value for money weekend break at The Savoy Hotel Bournemouth. We found the staff efficient and friendly, the garden rooms bright, clean and comfy. The food plentiful, hot and varied. The All Inclusive var on Saturday evening was the cherry on the cake.

Nice Hotel

Went with Shearing’s and it certainly was good value for money. Nice large clean room with bath and shower and tea tray etc. close to cliffs and not too far from town. Meals looked nice and well presented but only down side for us was that we tend to like our food plainer so that we can taste what we are eating. Starters and desserts were lovely but main course was difficult to find something that we liked except salad left main course first night as too spicy but we were offered another meal

Great hotel, but you need to be up for a walk...

Stopped at the Savoy hotel for a 2 nights with some friends. The hotel was nice and clean and the staff couldn't be faulted. We got the train down which was a relief as there were lots of people trying to find somewhere to park - the hotel car park was very busy. The view from our room was amazing, we paid extra for a garden view and were delighted to find that at the bottom of the garden was a great sea view! Our rooms were huge as well. Highlight had to be the poached eggs at breakfest - yum.

Hotel Review

We stayed on 4 nights B&B basis, May 2010, the Savoy is a large hotel with magnificent manicured gardens overlooked from the dining room and outside terrace. Our room on the second floor was spacious and was beautifully decorated with modern furniture, new carpet, the large bathroom had bath and shower, clean and serviced daily. All public areas were tastefully decorated and well lit. Food served hot, staff friendly, helpful, a holiday we enjoyed tremendously! Well Done!!

4 Night Stay

We have just been on a 4 night stay at the Savoy. 23 - 27 August. The hotel is great and all of the staff are really freindly and work really hard. We had room 124 above the entrance and were well satisfied. The food is great with something to suit all tastes. Very good value for money. The only downside was that we had a small child that decided to scream during the evening meal for 2 nights I think an age limit should be set as 90% of guests are 50+ and have come to escape that! Otherwise great

Short Break

We stayed at the Savoy from 12 to 16 April. After reading some of the reviews we almost cancelled that would have been our loss. We had a double room in the attic room 403. We found the room to be bright and airy with lovely views over the garden and right out to sea. We paid the extra for a garden view and it was well worth it. The food was good and the service was excellent. Would suggest you upgrade even if it is just to get a room with a garden view. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
