Visit Yorkshire

There's plenty to see and do

Rolling fields and peaceful little villages are often the first things that come to mind when people think of Yorkshire. They picture the extensive North York Moors, through which run steam trains, and the town of York with its cobbled streets, flowing river and waterside cafés. They might think of Harrogate – the splendid spa town, and home of Betty’s Tea Rooms – or the intricate Edwardian buildings that line the county’s roads. Read More

The truth is that the stereotypical image of Yorkshire doesn’t do it justice. Though those pretty little spa towns and historic houses would be enough to tempt tourists on their own, the region also boasts some incredible beaches and quiet little harbours filled with fishing boats. The Victorian town of Scarborough is within the county of Yorkshire, and is England’s oldest holiday resort. Whilst Harrogate offers tea and scones, it’s along the Yorkshire coast that you’ll find traditional fish and chips, sticks of rock and an abundance of sugary snacks.
Yorkshire is so diverse that every day can bring something completely new. You can spend a day shopping in York, visit an exhibition at the Harrogate International Centre just across the road from the St. George Hotel, or make your way to the beach to lie on the soft sand and enjoy an ice cream in a cone. Photographers will be in their element, and walkers can spend days exploring the natural scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
To complement every inch of natural beauty, Yorkshire has man-made attractions to suit every taste and interest. York Minster is the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe, and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park is an award-winning attraction near Doncaster. Yorkshire is home to the children’s museum, ‘Eureka!’, and to the Lightwater Valley Theme Park and Shopping Village. Learn about history at the JORVIK Viking Centre, or be scared silly in the York Dungeons. The Flamingo Land Theme Park is great for a family day out, and York’s Chocolate Story is the most delicious attraction imaginable. After a long day of exploration, nothing beats a mug of tasty Yorkshire Tea and a comfortable bed to return to.
