Visit Exmouth

Exmouth Lovely room and view, staff all really friendly, great location. Really enjoyed our stay. Exmouth Miss J Moon, Birmingham

There's plenty to see and do

For a real seaside holiday, why not start planning your visit to Exmouth? With its seafront Esplanade, classic white buildings and beaches sheltered by towering cliffs it’s one of the best places to relax on the sand and to enjoy a range of coastal attractions. Grand buildings like Powderham Castle and National Trust properties are great for anyone that loves history and architecture, though the kids might prefer a visit to the World of Country Life.

Exmouth’s formal gardens are absolutely stunning. A mild climate means that tropical and native British plants can grow side by side. You can go on walks beside the River Exe, and can enjoy the fresh air at the Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve. Learn more about the history of this remarkable seaside resort at the Exmouth Museum, or visit the Exmouth Model Railway right on Exmouth Seafront before lunch at the Railway Carriage Café.

The Jurassic Coast has all that you could possibly want for action and adventure. Go fossil hunting, or try a variety of water sports including sailing, windsurfing and kayaking. Birdwatching on the Exe Estuary is a popular activity, and boat trips along the shore give you a different view of some of the UK’s highest cliffs.

Whatever the weather, Exmouth’s shops are waiting for days of souvenir shopping. You can buy local produce at the town’s country markets, or visit a local wine bar for evening drinks before returning to your room at the Imperial Hotel.

Even in the middle of winter you’ll have a guaranteed great time. In fact, it’s worth noting that Exmouth is regularly voted amongst the best places to spend New Year’s Eve thanks to lively celebrations and fireworks on the beach. If you’re looking to enjoy a spectacle, then why not visit for the Christmas Day Swim as hundreds of people make their way into the bitterly cold water?

Hire a bike, cycle around the countryside and visit historic buildings on the Blue Plaque Heritage Trail. Don’t forget your camera, because there’s so much to see and do in Exmouth.
