Derwentwater is known as the Queen of The Lake District and this haven for nature lovers and bird watchers is arguably the most beautiful setting in the Lake District. The Derwentwater Hotel is located near to the town of Keswick which is considered the heart of the lakes. Take a boat across the water, explore the many walking routes suitable for all levels and look out for the rare Osprey around Whinlatter, 10 minutes from the hotel.
Just west of Newcastle, in the rugged Northumbrian countryside sits The George Hotel (pictured above). This beautiful riverside hotel is just five miles from the pretty market town of Hexham. A lot of guests come to walk Hadrian's Wall and the ruins of Chesters Bridge are close by. Game fishing is popular too, with permits available from the hotel.
