A warm welcome to The Golden Lion Hotel...

The hotel is like an icon in the town with its high profile location, next to the Town Hall, overlooking the green and the sea. Built in 1846, the hotel was the very first building in the town. Whilst it has been added to and recently modernised, it still holds on to its old world charm.

Recent refurbishment has given us a beautiful dining room and lovely bedrooms, including Premier rooms overlooking the sea. The “Lion Inn” public bar still attracts locals as well as guests, giving it a really vibrant feel, whilst those wanting a quiet spot can still find solitude in the residents’ bar.

The views across the green and The Wash are stunning and a real feature for us.

The Golden Lion hotel is located on the east coach of the UK near The Wash. Below is some directions from the A1 (M) to Golden Lion Hotel, Hunstanton. 

  • Head North on A1 (M) towards Exit 16.
  • At junction 17, exit towards A1139
  • Keep right at the fork, follow signs for A1139/Peterboro'/Wisbech and merge onto A1139
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Peterborough Rd
  • Continue on Eye Rd
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit
  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A47/Eye Rd heading to Wisbech/Spalding/Eye Green/Crowland/A1073/Thorney Continue to follow A47 Go through 4 roundabouts
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A47/S Brink heading to Wisbech Continue to follow A47 Go through 4 roundabouts
  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit and stay on A47
  • Take the ramp to Docks
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto A149/Queen Elizabeth Way Continue to follow A149 Go through 2 roundabouts
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on A149
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on A149 Go through 1 roundabout
  • Turn left at Greevegate Destination will be on the right

Norfolk is an undiscovered gem – we have no motorways in the county! Having lived here all my life I love the relaxed atmosphere, the beaches and the countryside. The Royal Household at Sandringham, 10 minutes from the hotel, is worth a visit for both the house and beautiful gardens. Along with Sandringham, we also have Holkham Hall, the Princess Theatre, our beautiful beaches and much, much more.

My stay at The Golden Lion Hotel...

The Golden Lion Hotel Review

Excellent value for money, We stayed in The Golden Lion, October 2009 for 4 days. The staff wer'e very pleasant & helpfull. Hotel very clean & tidy both inside & outside. Food was very very good, a good choice, served hot & plentifull. It is recommended, to visit the Golden Lion. Ideal for Walks & the wildlife is brilliant.
